What's Open and Closed in Columbus on Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 12
Monday, Oct. 12, is Columbus Day, a federal and state holiday. Many offices in Columbus will be closed, trash pickup is shifting, and the buses will run a lighter schedule. Here's what you need to know.
Emergencies: Police, fire and ambulance service run as usual. Call 911.
Trash and recycling
- No pickup Monday. Monday's routes will be picked up Wednesday, Oct. 14.
- All other days stay on their normal schedule.
- Both city landfills, Granite Bluff and Pine Grove, are closed Monday.
METRA buses
- Buses run a Saturday schedule on Monday.
- Regular service returns Tuesday, Oct. 13.
City offices: closed Monday
- 311 Citizens Service Center
- Property tax office
- Motor vehicle registration (tag) office
- Columbus Ice Rink
- Most Parks and Recreation facilities
Open normal hours Monday
- Columbus Aquatic Center
- Cooper Creek Tennis Center
- Lake Oliver Marina
- Bull Creek and Oxbow golf courses
Schools: out Friday and Monday
Muscogee County schools are on fall break Friday, Oct. 9, and Monday, Oct. 12. Students return Tuesday, Oct. 13, which is also report card day.
Early voting: starts Tuesday, not Monday
There's no early voting on Monday because of the holiday. Early voting for the Nov. 3 election starts Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (See every early-voting site and the hours in our early voting guide.)
State and federal offices
- Closed: Georgia state offices, including driver's license (DDS) offices; post offices, which won't deliver regular mail; Social Security offices; and federal courts.
- Banks: many are closed because the Federal Reserve is closed. Check with your bank. ATMs and online banking still work.
- Stock markets are open.
Libraries
Check the Chattahoochee Valley Libraries website, cvlga.org, for Monday hours before you go.
