Tyler Perry's Netflix drama 'Doing Life' Drops Oct. 2
Tyler Perry is back with another original film for Netflix, this time pairing Naomi Baker and Jay Reeves in an urban drama about two people trying to rebuild their lives.
Tyler Perry's Doing Life arrives on the streaming service Oct. 2, following close on the heels of Perry's historical drama The Six Triple Eight. The new film follows a single mother and an ex-convict — played by Baker and Reeves — who form an unlikely bond as they each fight for a second chance.
What it's about
Described as a gritty urban drama, Doing Life centers on a single mother fighting for survival and a reformed ex-convict with untapped talent, whose paths cross and connect in unexpected ways.
Perry wrote and directed the film himself, continuing his hands-on approach across his Netflix projects. He also produced alongside Angi Bones and Tony L. Strickland.
Who's in it
The cast includes:
Naomi Baker (All American: Homecoming) Jay Reeves (The Six Triple Eight) Tamberla Perry (Brilliant Minds, They Cloned Tyrone) Karen Obilom (Games People Play, Doom Patrol) Jasmine Sargent (Dynasty, The Day Ones) Danielle Moné Truitt (Law & Order: Organized Crime, Rebel)
Part of a bigger slate
Doing Life is just the latest entry in Perry's deep catalog of Netflix films, which includes A Fall from Grace, A Madea Homecoming, A Jazzman's Blues, Mea Culpa, The Six Triple Eight, Straw, Madea's Destination Wedding and Ruth & Boaz. He also has Why Did I Get Married Again? on the way.
On the television side, Perry's Netflix shows include Beauty in Black, She the People and Tyler Perry's Miss Governor — a slate that shows no signs of slowing down.
