Muscogee County Schools Ranked: What Five Years of Data Reveals

Parents choosing a school in Columbus, Georgia, have several ways to evaluate academic performance, but comparing schools requires looking beyond a single year’s test scores. Graduation rates, student achievement, academic progress, and college readiness can all help families understand how schools are performing.

A review of publicly available Muscogee County School District data reveals a clear pattern among local high schools: Columbus High School and Rainey-McCullers School of the Arts maintained 100% four-year graduation rates throughout the five-year period examined. Northside High School also recorded consistently high graduation rates, while several other schools showed substantial improvement by 2025.

Elementary school results tell a different story. Published 2023 state accountability figures show significant differences in academic performance among schools, with Britt David Elementary Computer Magnet leading the schools included in the available comparison.

There is an important limitation to these rankings. Georgia changed its College and Career Ready Performance Index, or CCRPI, reporting system beginning in 2022. Since 2022–23, the state has not reported traditional A–F school grades, and its newer accountability system emphasizes separate performance measures instead of one overall score. The rankings below therefore compare specific measures rather than claiming to identify the universally best or worst schools.

1. Muscogee County High Schools Ranked by Five-Year Graduation Rates

The following ranking uses the average four-year graduation rate for the classes of 2021 through 2025. The averages were calculated from school-level graduation rates published by the district.

Graduation rates measure the percentage of students who graduate within four years. They do not measure every aspect of school quality, but five consecutive years of results provide a useful way to evaluate consistency.

What the High School Rankings Reveal

Columbus High and Rainey-McCullers lead the rankings. Both schools reported graduation rates of 100% in every year from 2021 through 2025. Their results represent an exceptional record of on-time graduation, although families should also consider admissions requirements, academic programs, and other measures when comparing schools.

Northside High ranks third. Its five-year average was approximately 96.6%, and its graduation rate reached 97.3% in 2025. The school maintained a relatively narrow range of results across all five years.

Shaw High showed consistent improvement. Its graduation rate increased from 91.8% in 2021 to 97.0% in 2025. That upward trend helped it finish fourth in the five-year comparison.

Jordan, Hardaway, and Kendrick also posted encouraging results. All three schools recorded graduation rates above 94% in 2025. Kendrick improved from 84.4% in 2021 to 95.9% in 2025, while Hardaway rose from 89.8% to 95.0%.

Spencer’s recent improvement stands out. Its graduation rate increased from 85.2% in 2021 to 94.8% in 2025. Although its five-year average ranks ninth, its latest result was considerably higher than its early-period performance.

The overall trend is positive. In its September 2025 announcement, the Muscogee County School District reported that all nine high schools had graduation rates of at least 92% and exceeded Georgia’s statewide rate of 87.2%.

The districtwide graduation rate reached 96.1% in 2025, up from 91.2% in 2021. That represents a 4.9-percentage-point increase over the period.

2. Muscogee County Elementary Schools Ranked by 2023 Content Mastery

High school graduation rates cannot be used to rank elementary schools. For elementary schools, one useful measure is Content Mastery, which evaluates student achievement on Georgia’s state assessments.

The following ranking uses the individual elementary-school Content Mastery scores published in the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer’s December 2023 report on the 2023 CCRPI results.

Rank Elementary School 2023 Content Mastery 1 Britt David Elementary Computer Magnet 100.0 2 Mathews Elementary School 80.8 3 North Columbus Elementary School 71.2 4 Eagle Ridge Academy 65.6 5 Clubview Elementary School 64.4 6 Downtown Elementary Magnet Academy 62.2 7 Double Churches Elementary School 60.5 8 Johnson Elementary School 54.8 9 Hannan Elementary School 54.2 10 Blanchard Elementary School 53.8 11 Gentian Elementary School 51.5 12 Wynnton Elementary School 50.2 13 Reese Road Leadership Academy 49.4 14 Allen Elementary School 48.5 15 Midland Academy 47.0 16 Waddell Elementary School 43.8 17 South Columbus Elementary School 41.7

Source: Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, December 2023, reporting Muscogee County’s 2023 CCRPI results. These are Content Mastery scores, not overall school ratings. This is a ranking of the 17 schools for which individual scores were included in the published comparison, not a verified ranking of every elementary school in the district.

What the Elementary Rankings Reveal

Britt David Elementary Computer Magnet leads the published comparison. Its Content Mastery score was 100, substantially higher than the scores reported for the other schools in this particular list.

Mathews Elementary ranked second at 80.8, followed by North Columbus Elementary at 71.2. Eagle Ridge Academy and Clubview Elementary also recorded scores above 64.

At the other end of the published comparison, South Columbus Elementary recorded a Content Mastery score of 41.7, while Waddell Elementary scored 43.8. These results identify schools where families may want to examine additional information about academic achievement and student progress.

However, a Content Mastery score is only one part of the CCRPI system. A school with a lower achievement score may still demonstrate meaningful student growth, and the scores do not explain every factor influencing student outcomes.

The published results also should not be interpreted as proof that a school is good or bad for every child. Individual learning needs, specialized programs, school culture, and the support available to students all matter.

3. What About Muscogee County Middle Schools?

A reliable middle-school ranking requires comparable school-level data from the same reporting years. The publicly available sources used for this review did not provide a complete, consistently comparable five-year series for every Muscogee County middle school.

Rather than publish an incomplete list that could incorrectly identify a school as one of the district’s highest- or lowest-performing schools, parents should consult Georgia’s official CCRPI reporting system for the latest middle-school results.

The state’s reporting system provides measures including Content Mastery, Progress, Closing Gaps, and Readiness. These indicators can help parents compare academic achievement, growth, and other aspects of school performance.

Families should also examine individual middle schools’ course offerings, attendance, student support services, and preparation for high school.

4. How to Check the Latest Ratings for Any Muscogee County School

Parents who want to investigate a school beyond the rankings above can use these official resources:

  • Georgia CCRPI Reporting System: Georgia’s official school performance dashboard. Search for a school, select a reporting year, and review the available performance measures.
  • Georgia School Grades Reports: Governor’s Office of Education and Workforce Strategy reports. This portal provides public-school reports and academic performance information.
  • Muscogee County School District: District website and announcements. District announcements provide additional context on graduation rates, academic performance, and school initiatives.

When comparing schools, parents should use the same reporting year and the same performance measure. Comparing one school’s graduation rate with another school’s standardized-test score, for example, would not produce a meaningful ranking.

The Bottom Line

The available data reveal several notable results in Muscogee County public schools. Columbus High School and Rainey-McCullers School of the Arts maintained 100% graduation rates for five consecutive years, while Northside High School averaged approximately 96.6%. Shaw, Jordan, Hardaway, and Kendrick also recorded strong recent graduation results.

For elementary schools, Britt David Elementary Computer Magnet led the published 2023 Content Mastery comparison, followed by Mathews and North Columbus.

These rankings offer a starting point for families researching schools in Columbus, but they are not a complete five-year ranking of every school in the district. A comprehensive ranking would require the underlying school-level data for all elementary, middle, and high schools across the five-year period, using comparable measures and accounting for changes in Georgia’s reporting system.
