Columbus residents can get rid of old paint, household chemicals, car batteries and outdated computers for free on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Columbus Recycling and Sustainability Center, 8001 Pine Grove Way. The drive-through event is for Columbus residents only, and you must bring an ID.

The city's Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Collection Day is the one time this fall that many of these items can be dropped off together. One thing is off the list: televisions will not be accepted.

The collection was first announced for Oct. 10. Columbus Public Works now lists Oct. 24 as the collection day.

Use the 8001 Pine Grove Way address. The Pine Grove Municipal Landfill is a separate site down the road.

What hazardous waste does Columbus accept?

Columbus Public Works lists these 10 kinds of hazardous waste for the event:

  1. Antifreeze
  2. Paints
  3. Solvents
  4. Pesticides
  5. Herbicides
  6. Cleaners
  7. Acids
  8. Mercury
  9. Rechargeable batteries
  10. Fluorescent light bulbs

The city's Oct. 6 announcement adds more detail. It lists household cleaning products; lawn care and pool chemicals; fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides; latex and oil-based paint, paint thinners and furniture stripper; and automotive fluids, oil filters and car batteries.

Which electronics can you bring?

The announcement names computers, printers, fax machines and copiers, plus "other consumer electronics." That covers the old desktop in the closet and the printer that quit working.

It does not list every gadget. If you have something unusual, like a large appliance, call ahead instead of guessing.

What will not be accepted?

Televisions. The city's announcement says plainly that TVs will not be taken at this event.

The announcement does not publish a full list of other banned items, quantity limits or container rules. If an item is not on the lists above, check with organizers before loading it.

Can you bring old shoes too?

Yes. Keep Columbus Beautiful Commission is asking residents to bring gently used shoes for its 2026 Shoe Recycle Campaign. The shoe drive is part of the same event, so you can drop off shoes and household waste in one trip.

How should you get ready?

  • Sort before you go. Compare what you have with the two lists above and set aside anything that isn't on them.
  • Keep products in their original containers when you can, so workers can tell what they are.
  • Bring your ID. The city says it is required, and the event is for Columbus residents only.
  • Arrive early. The window is four hours, and the city has not announced a second date this fall.
  • Leave TVs at home.

Who do you call with questions?

Keep Columbus Beautiful Commission is the contact for the event: 706-225-4008 or [email protected].

The bottom line

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 24, 8 a.m. to noon
  • Where: 8001 Pine Grove Way
  • Bring: ID, your hazardous waste, old electronics and gently used shoes
  • Don't bring: TVs
