City Seeks Builders for New Dragonfly Trail Segment Along River Road
Columbus is one step closer to a new stretch of the Dragonfly Trails along River Road. The city is taking bids from contractors to build the trail's River Road segment.
What's planned
The new segment will run about 5,026 feet, nearly a mile, according to the city's bid documents. It will:
- Start near Cascade Road and run south along River Road (State Route 219)
- Turn west to connect with the existing RiverWalk at Lake Oliver Road
- Include a 10-foot-wide concrete trail and a new pedestrian bridge
- Add landscaping, stormwater improvements, signs and trail amenities
Because part of the trail runs along a state highway, the city has already obtained a permit from the Georgia Department of Transportation. The city set a 10% participation goal for disadvantaged business enterprises on the project.
Tennis courts, too
The city is also taking bids to resurface the tennis courts at Lakebottom Park and Double Churches Park.
For contractors
Bids for both projects are due Oct. 7, 2026, at 2:30 p.m., and must be submitted electronically through OpenBids. Bid documents are on the city's Finance Department website at columbusga.gov/finance/Bid-Opportunities. Contractors can also email [email protected] or call 706-225-4087.
About the Dragonfly Trails
The Dragonfly Trails are a growing network of walking and biking trails connecting neighborhoods, parks and the RiverWalk across Columbus. The River Road segment will give residents in north Columbus a new way to reach the river.
