NBC's newest comedy holds that love doesn't have an age limit, and neither do the complications that come with it.

"Newlyweds" premieres Friday, Oct. 23, at 8:30 p.m. ET on NBC and streams the next day on Peacock. Jamie Lee Curtis co-created the show, Gail Lerner wrote it, and Téa Leoni and Tim Daly play a couple who marry on impulse after a whirlwind courtship.

Leoni plays Jeanie, a free spirit. Daly plays James, a buttoned-up professor. James only has eyes for Jeanie, but he soon finds out that loving her also means loving her big, eccentric circle of friends and family. That goes both ways, because Jeanie's world has to learn to love him too.

The setup brings together two actors with long television résumés. Leoni carried a broadcast series for years as the lead of "Madam Secretary," and Daly is known to TV audiences from "Wings" and, more recently, from playing opposite Leoni on that same political drama.

A Curtis creation, with a Curtis cameo

Curtis is more than a name on the producer list. Along with co-creating the series and serving as an executive producer, she is billed as a "very special guest star" and appears on screen alongside the main cast.

Lerner runs the show day to day as showrunner and executive producer, in addition to co-creating it.

The rest of the ensemble includes Emma Meisel, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, Bill O'Neill and comedian Al Madrigal.

Old-school format

"Newlyweds" is a multi-camera comedy. That's the traditional sitcom style, shot on a stage with several cameras running at once, and it has become less common as single-camera comedies have taken over much of television.

Pam Fryman directed the pilot and is an executive producer on that episode. Eric and Kim Tannenbaum and Jason Wang of The Tannenbaum Company are also executive producers, as are Scott Schwartz and Lionsgate Television.

Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, produces the series.
