Coulter Fussell: The Proving Ground
The first museum-organized retrospective of the Columbus-born artist’s work, the exhibition brings together more than 40 large-scale quilt-based and mixed-media works spanning five major series created since 2020. Fussell works with donated textiles, clothing, photographs, and found objects to explore memory, family, place, and the American South, moving between traditional quilting, sculpture, photography, and digital projection.
The exhibition also offers a strong connection to fiber and contemporary craft, particularly through Fussell’s use of repurposed and donated materials and her ongoing River Raft Quilts series, which draws on the Chattahoochee River and the idea of quilts as both maps and vessels for imagined journeys.
