Former Soldier Has A Story to Tell
Columbus, Georgia – The story was told to us in Columbus, GA, but Mrs. Bonita Hightower lives in Preston, Georgia. She has had her story told on The Dee Armstrong Show (WTVM-Columbus, GA), in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper, the Americus Times-Recorder newspaper and now, in the pages and website of The Columbus Times Newspaper.
Where should we start with the story about a woman, who is a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a business owner (Bonita’s Carry-Out/Plains, GA), a cook, an author (wrote the book, “Believe”), former member U.S. Army, a college student and community leader?
Let’s begin by sharing the fact that as a cook and owner of Bonita’ Carry-Out restaurant in Plains, GA, one of her most famous couple in Plains—President Jimmy Carter and his wife, were her customers. Both loved her catfish; President Carter enjoyed his order fried and Mrs. Carter enjoyed hers baked. Some of President Carter’s relatives stiil enjoy Bonita Hightower’s cooking. She loves to cook fresh vegetables, meats and puts her special touch on the dishes. Her place is open Wed.-Sun, 7:30-3:30 and on Sat., she serves breakfast only. Mr. Hightower is her helper in the restaurant and when necessary, she hires additional help.
What began as her life in the U.S. Army, rising to an E6 ended abruptly when she was injured. However, Bonita was not alone her life journey She is married to Mr. Willie Hightower, who retired from the U.S. Army as a first sergeant. To their marriage were born five children and from the five children, the Hightower’s have five grandchildren.
Family life was part of her life’s activity, however Mrs. Hightower graduated from Columbus State University in 1996 with a major in health science. She is truly a mover.
So, now we know something about this ambitious woman whose dream of becoming an author materialized when she wrote the book,” Believe”. She candidly admitted that the book is about the “person who is reading it”,. The book is available through Amazon and costs $10.95 plus shipping.
There is more to say about the well-spoken and energetic Mrs. Bonita Hightower. She has been active in the communities where she lives and she does business. She was even a school board member in 1992. As a person interested in education and helping youth, she designed and implemented a 10-week program for school-age children so they would have dynamic learning experiences while out of school for the summer break. She had the youth taking educational trips and even escorted a group to The Columbus Times Newspaper in the past.
After reading about this vibrant personality, we can conclude that there is only one Mrs.Bonita Hightower. Once you meet her, you will always remember her. And her strength to do so much is because she has a love for her neighbor as the Holy Bible encourages.
